Daily Object Sketch #5

Artist Statement

For our lines project, my group and I decided to portray the connection between our spiritual and earthly life through a masking tape mural. Our subject is of a human-and-God connection, the ultimate results of our choices in life, and what God has done for our sinful humanity. The heart and wifi shows how we are connected with God through Jesus, who saved us from sin by dying on the cross. The road is the path we walk with our decisions; we can make choices to deviate from the right path and go to hell, follow the narrow path that ultimately leads us to the cross (Jesus/heaven), or we can ask God for guidance when we make the wrong turn. He would lead us to Him eventually if we follow, but that would take longer. Life can also be confusing to some people. Last but not least, the people with different races and characteristics, as you can see, represent how most people on earth are united as one by believing in God and His love. We chose this scene/subject because it is a very important factor in our lives that most people don't often consider.

Cross-contouring is used in this project by cutting masking tapes in a specific length to form the cross, which is at the center (main focus) of the project. Direction is used on the road that leads to different directions. Measure is seen on the representation of the cross, and the thick and thin stick-figured people that were meant to represent the various sizes of humans. The people around the cross also showed character. To accomplish our project in about an hour period, we had to find a variety of methods in using masking tapes to achieve our goal. I believe that the final piece is close to what we had expected, and all our group members (Emily, Sierra, Brianna, and myself) contributed to the project, so I am satisfied about it.
